Maths&Stats are very important in DS indeed. I haven’t given enough attention for that in my article — I have to admit— and I’ll cover this topic in an upcoming article, I promise.

However you’ve already made a good point in your comment:
Building the toolkits from scratch is a good method for learning & understanding the math behind them. And it’s doable in Python, R and Bash as well — not just ASM or C! So I join you and recommend to everyone who reads this to do so!
